Privacy Notice

This notice explains what personal data I collect, why I collect it, and how I use and protect it. Last updated: August 2026.

What is Universal Credit With a Preschooler?

This website is operated by the founder of Universal Credit With A Preschooler, an independent advocacy site based in the UK. If you have any questions about this notice or how your data is handled, you can contact me via the contact page.

What data I collect

I may collect the following types of personal data:

  • Contact form submissions — your name, email address, and any message you choose to send me, including your professional role if you identify as a professional. You don't have to disclose any of this information and can fill in the survey completely anonymously.
  • Survey responses — information you voluntarily provide about your experience of Universal Credit and single parenting. Survey responses may include sensitive personal data relating to health and domestic circumstances. The survey does not ask for contact information or names so I will not be able to identify you unless you choose to include personal information.
  • Purchase data — if you pre-order a book through this site, your payment is processed by a third-party provider (PayPal or Stripe). I will not store your card details.
  • Usage data — basic analytics about how visitors use the site, such as pages visited and time spent. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.

Why data is collected

I collect personal data for the following purposes:

  • To respond to enquiries submitted via the contact form.
  • To gather and analyse parent and professional experiences of Universal Credit for advocacy and research purposes.
  • To fulfil book pre-orders and communicate with customers about their purchase.
  • To understand how the site is being used so we can improve it.

The legal basis for processing your data is your consent (where you have actively submitted a form or survey and included name/contact details), to fulfil book orders, and my legitimate interest in conducting advocacy work in the public interest.

Sensitive personal data

The survey may ask about your mental health, experience of domestic abuse, or other sensitive matters. You are never required to answer these questions. Where you choose to share this information, it is used solely for the purposes of advocacy and research, and will never be shared in a way that identifies you personally.

How I store and protect your data

Your data is stored securely for one year before being disposed of responsibly. I take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect it against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. I do not sell your data to third parties.

Third-party services

This site uses the following third-party services, each of which has its own privacy policy:

  • PayPal — for processing book pre-order payments.
  • Stripe — for processing book pre-order payments.

How long I keep your data

I retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this notice. Contact form submissions are kept for up to 12 months. Survey data used for advocacy and research may be retained for longer in anonymised or aggregated form.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request that we correct inaccurate data.
  • Request that we delete your data.
  • Object to or restrict how we process your data.
  • Withdraw your consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact me via the contact page. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

This site may use essential cookies to support basic functionality. I do not use advertising or tracking cookies. If this changes, this notice will be updated.

I may update this privacy notice from time to time. Any changes will be published on this page with an updated date at the top.
